Round 19

I just want to say to any of you out there thinking of playing in one of her events. Don't mess with Wilma. She is on her stuff. She wants this event to run smoothly and on time. This has necessitated her to get tough with some players who have gone absent between rounds. She has done due diligence to find lost players, but if she can't locate, their clocks go on! This round, both Nawapadol Sayavesa (THA) and Amnuay Ploysangngam (THA) were lost, again. So Nawa's cloc at table 1 was started! Gulp!

I walk by Marty Gabriel (USA) playing Dave Wiegand (USA) at table 2. On the triple lane goes ZIN, which hooks to make ZEA, for 48 points, by Marty. Then barely taking a breath, Dave put down ROADINGS on the triple lane for 88. I come back as the game ends, and find a Marty bingo-bango-bongo: AEROBATS for 83, PRAEnIAL for 76, and TINKERED for 75. Dave played MINCIEST for 88, but this was Marty's win, 533-448.

INERtIAE through the T goes down for Phil Robertshaw (Eng) in his game at table 5 wtih John O'Laughlin (USA). I come when they are finished to find a Phil win: 490-350. WORTHIES, ENcHAFES, SILAGES, and QUANGO are some fun words.

Nick Ball (USA) played Chris Cree (USA) this round and it wasn't pretty. Of the game, Chris said, "It was almost like I drew my tiles face up!" It was a 495-305 Cree win. I see ORALIsTS for 66, NORITES for 68, TOENAIL for 92 by Chris. Other fun plays: ORANGEY and SISTERs. Nick confesses that this is his biggest loss of the event, but not his biggest loss ever. That one was a 345 point spread!

"I was down by 140, and I worked hard at getting close enough to give me a chance," says Peter Armstrong (USA), of his game with round with Amit Chakrabarti (USA). It was Amit's win. Some pretty plays: Peter's SEABOARD for 72, TUrGITE for 73, and INSERTED for 86. Amit played LEaDENED for 73 and JOYING for 50. Late in the game, Peter tried OUTWATER* through the WAT, but it was challenged off.

TJ (Tijan Jeng) is here visiting. Pat Sanchez has returned, too. Joy Nees and Kristina Simon are visiting, too.
